Happy Chinese New Year!
Chinese New Year is just around the corner, this year it falls on February 12th and it will be the year of the Ox. There are usually many festivities in San Francisco to celebrate, but, as with many things in the past year, the celebration had to go online. January 29, 2-3PM: Wok with Chef Martin Yan
San Francisco’s own Chef Martin Yan helps us celebrate the Lunar New Year by providing a virtual cooking class suitable for all cooks, young to old, if “Yan Can Cook, So Can You!” Learn how to make a good fortune treasure box, longevity needles, and pan-seared fish with spicy miso sauce. February 10, 2-3PM: Chinese New Year Community Round Table
Join the Chinese Historical Society of America Community for a roundtable discussion of topics that impact our community on the second Wednesday of each month! This month, we’ll focus on the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, which begin on February 12th. Join fellow participants to discuss Chinese New Year memories, traditions, hopes for the new year, and plans to celebrate during the pandemic. Learn more and register here.

February 10, starts at 6:45 PM: SF Neon Chinatown Tour Part 1
SF Chinatown Neon Tour Part 1 will feature an introduction provided by the Chinese Historical Society of America with a focus on traditions for Chinese New Year in San Francisco. This intro will be followed by SF Neon's popular Chinatown neon tour. Guests are encouraged to get their favorite Chinese take-out to eat while enjoying the event. February 13, 1-3PM : American Chinese Restaurants
Join the Chinese Historical Society of America and the authors of American Chinese Restaurants for our annual Chinese New Year Celebration. This newly published book includes case studies from the USA, Canada, Chile, and more to examine the historical and lived experiences of the Chinese restaurant. During this webinar, presenters will share their insights into small family businesses, historical racism, architecture, and growing up in an American Chinese restaurant. February 18, 3-4PM: Reading of The Year of the Ox: Tales from the Chinese Zodiac
Join The Chinese Historical Society of America and author Oliver Chin for a children's program focusing on Chinese New Year. Participants will hear a reading of The Year of the Ox: Tales from the Chinese Zodiac, written by Oliver Chin and illustrated by Jeremiah Alcorn, and then will be able to ask the author questions. This popular annual children’s book series features the twelve charming animals that embody the Chinese New Year.
