Internships, Classes, and Opportunities for Teens

Our city has amazing opportunities for teens to learn, grow, and explore potential careers. We have pulled together a list of some of the programs we know of that are free (or paid!)

Please note: many of the classes and internship opportunities listed below have deadlines coming up very soon! We have noted deadlines we are aware of in bold italics.

Classes

Youth Art Exchange offers a wide range of free art classes to public school students in san francisco. This fall’s courses include: Architecture Firm, Industrial + Product Design, Darkroom Photography, Fashion Design, Filmmaking, Music Production, and Printmaking. Priority applications are due August 30, 2019. https://www.youthartexchange.org/.

Mission Bit provides computer science courses that expose high school students from underserved and underrepresented communities to multiple coding languages. Application deadline for fall courses is September 2nd at 8AM. https://www.missionbit.com/

San Francisco Public Library offers a variety of free classes, including videography, SAT prep, financial literacy, origami, gaming and more! https://themixatsfpl.org/events

Boys and Girls Club Teen Clubs offer SAT prep, career skills, help obtaining internships, and much more https://www.kidsclub.org/join-a-club/teens

Volunteer/Internships

San Francisco Public Library has multiple volunteer opportunities for teens, including helping patrons with computer skills and serving as volunteer reading tutors for elementary school aged children https://themixatsfpl.org/jobs-and-volunteer

SF YouthWorks has an internship program for 11th and 12th grade students that provides paid work experience in San Francisco City Government Departments. Deadline for school year program is September 20, 2019. http://sfyouthworks.org/for-youth/groups/

Mayors Youth Employment and Education Program (MYEEP) for 9th and 10th graders. Application deadline is September 6. http://www.myeep.org/programs/myeep-intern-program/

LYRIC, center for LGBTQQ youth has a paid internship programs this fall for LGBTQQ+ and ally youth 14-18. http://lyric.org/youth-internships/

CORO Northern California offers a program for San Francisco youth called Community Action Youth Fellows. Must live or go to school in SF Districts 1, 7, or 11. Application deadline is Sept 1. https://coronorcal.org/program/community-action-youth-fellows/
