Action Items

  • There are no resolutions scheduled for a vote.

Informational Items

  • There are no scheduled informational updates.

Introduction of Proposals:

The public may comment on these items but they are not up for a vote tonight. They will be discussed at one or more Board of Education committee meetings before being brought back for a vote at a regular board meeting.

  • The Superintendent’s Public Education Enrichment Fund expenditure plan for 2019-20 will be introduced. The plan may be viewed here.

  • Three new/updated policies will be introduced.

    • Financial Reports and Accountability. This policy sets out the expectations for the Superintendent and the Board of education in monitoring and reporting on the district’s financial situation. You can read it here.

    • Math Placement Policy. You can read the whole policy here, but the only change is a sentence at the end that requires SFUSD to report on the number of students who have completed UC/CSU entrance requirements (for math).

    • Update to the policy on suicide prevention. The policy is here. Only change is to require that the policy is reviewed and updated every 5 years.

    • Uniform Complaint Procedure: This policy sets out the process and timelines for filing formal complaints within SFUSD. Some types of complaints are legally required to follow different guidelines - the amendment makes it more clear which complaints fall into this category (i.e., Williams Act , ADA, Section 504, Employment Discrimination or Harassment)

  • A proposal to grant or deny the renewal petition for Gateway High School will be introduced for a first reading.

Public Comment

There is always an opportunity for public comment at school board meetings.

At regular meetings, speakers may speak to any item being voted on or may give general public comment during the time reserved for "Public Comment on General Matters." Speakers must sign up in advance, either by calling the board office at (415) 241-6493 or filling out a speaker card at the meeting and handing it to Esther Casco, the executive assistant to the board, who sits next to the podium. Speaker cards must be turned in before the agenda item being spoken to is officially "called."

At committee meetings, those wishing to speak may sign up in advance or simply approach the podium when the committee chair calls for public comment.

Members of the public are typically allowed two minutes to speak, but the time given may be shorter if there are a large number of speakers.
