Two meetings this week!

Committee of the Whole: Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 6:00PM

Committee of the Whole meetings include all members of the Board of Education and allow board members to engage in deep discussion about a topic. The are often called to discuss topics or resolutions that would otherwise be referred to three or more Board of Education committees. No formal action is taken at a Committee of the Whole meeting.

  • This week, the Committee of the Whole will be discussing a resolution “In Support of Making College More Accessible to SFUSD Students”

  • The resolution would expand access for SFUSD students to courses at City College of San Francisco (CCSF)

  • Currently, students must have 120 high school credits to be eligible to enroll in CCSF courses. The proposed resolution would do away with this requirement. Students could take courses at CCSF beginning in 9th grade

Rules, Policy, and Legislation Committee meeting : Wednesday, October 3, 2018, @ 6 PM, at 555 Franklin Street.

  • The committee will hear updates on pending state legislation that that may impact SFUSD and may vote to take positions on behalf of SFUSD

  • The committee will also make recommendations to the full board about five proposed policy changes. These include changes or updates to five board policies. Details of these proposed policies can be viewed by clicking through links provided on the meeting agenda.

Public Comment

There is always an opportunity for public comment at school board meetings.

At regular meetings, speakers may speak to any item being voted on or may give general public comment during the time reserved for "Public Comment on General Matters." Speakers must sign up in advance, either by calling the board office at (415) 241-6493 or filling out a speaker card at the meeting and handing it to Esther Casco, the executive assistant to the board, who sits next to the podium. Speaker cards must be turned in before the agenda item being spoken to is officially "called."

At committee meetings, those wishing to speak may sign up in advance or simply approach the podium when the committee chair calls for public comment.

Members of the public are typically allowed two minutes to speak, but the time given may be shorter if there are a large number of speakers.
