Executive Director Update: We Build Bridges

Each day I come into our office and I am proud to witness first-hand the excellent work being done by my knowledgeable and thoughtful colleagues as we build bridges between families, schools, and the district.

Many members of the PPS-SF team!

Many members of the PPS-SF team!

The dedication and responsiveness of our team were especially evident after the most recent tragic shooting in Florida. Our staff and board sprang into action to support each other while lifting our voices with other groups to demand gun reform.

Even in the face of such national tragedies that command our immediate attention, the PPS-SF team never ceases to work on behalf of local San Francisco families.

SFUSD will send school assignment notification letters on March 16. We will host workshops and be on standby to answer questions about next steps.

We are also rolling out revamped family partnership workshops on topics such as communicating in schools, English language reclassification, restorative practices, how to navigate IEPs and 504s, and more. We offer the workshops and coaching in English, Spanish, and Cantonese/Mandarin.

As part of our continued commitment to building bridges between the schools and families, we are also working with SFUSD for a special push to help parents better make use of the recently launched ParentVue tool. This multilingual communication platform helps parents see their students’ grades, attendance, and other measures of progress. In addition to becoming an active user or ParentVue, I hope that all families will enroll in the SFUSD text messaging tool, SchoolMessenger. Active and ongoing communication with our children’s educators is critical to their success as students!

We also look ahead in anticipation of our Annual General Meeting this spring, which will cover middle school re-design and will need your input. Please stay tuned for more details.

Strong Schools. Strong City.
